Six years after a man was found dead in his Clearwater home, his wife was charged Friday with fatally shooting him, the Clearwater Police Department said.

Rebecca Fenton, 46, has been charged with first-degree murder in the shooting death of her husband, Larry Fenton. Clearwater police arrested her at her home in the Capri Mobile Home Park, 24195 US Highway 19 N., hours after a Pinellas County grand jury indicted her in the death of her 57-year-old husband.

Larry Fenton was found dead in his home, 1051 Nokomis St., on February 3, 2008.

Rebecca Fenton told investigators she found his body after the shooting and that she was exercising in the detached garage of the home when it happened.

She said she heard a noise that sounded like something had fallen off the roof and continued to exercise. She said she checked on her husband later and found him lying in a pool of blood, police said.

During the death investigation, detectives searched Rebecca Fenton’s car, which was parked in the driveway. Larry Fenton’s revolver that he had bought in 2007 was found in her car, police said.

In the home, a box of ammunition located in the master bedroom was missing five rounds.

Investigators later determined that the revolver found in Rebecca Fenton’s car was used in the fatal shooting of Larry Fenton, police said.

Rebecca Fenton is being held without bond, police said.
