CLEARWATER – Clearwater police have a man in custody after they say he was seen trying to ignite a bucket of fertilizer on Sunday.

The Tampa Bomb Squad arrived about noon and quickly disposed of the material, which was identified as fertilizer.

Sunset Point Road was reopened about the same time.

Witnesses called police about 10 a.m. when they saw Constantine Tambourakis, 39, trying to light a bucket on fire at a bus stop near 2200 Sunset Point Road, police said. He started to leave when officers arrived and he was taken into custody.

Police learned from Tambourakis’ family that he had been involved in similar activities Saturday with smaller amounts of palm tree fertilizer at the house. Police said the charge Tambourakis faces is making a destructive device.
