Burned dog may be out of hospital soon

Published:

A dog that was severely burned after being set on fire by her owner is healing so well she may be released from a Tampa veterinary hospital next week, officials say.

James P. Judge, media relations manager for BluePearl Veterinary Partners, says Hope’s burns are about 90 percent healed.

The ophthalmologist treating the dog, Tammy Miller Michau, said, “The healing process of her eyes is now progressing rapidly. Her vision is improving every day.”

Hope, a 1-year-old female, mixed-breed dog, was set on fire March by her owner Larry Wallace, 66, of Arcadia, officials say. Wallace was charged last week with arson and cruelty to animals.

Donations for Hope’s care can be made to the Hardee Animal Rescue Team via their website at hardeeanimalrescueteam.weebly.com
