A portion of Interstate 75 in Hillsborough and Manatee counties was closed Tuesday due to smoke from a brush fire, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Hillsborough County Fire Rescue said the fire destroyed about 50 acres and was located near Highway 41 South and Valroy Road. Manatee County and Florida Division of Forrestry units aided in the effort.

It took firefighters close to two hours to get control of the fire, and firefighters are still on scene extinguishing hot spots, fire officials said.

All lanes of north- and southbound I-75 were closed for several hours. At 8:15 p.m., lanes began to be re-opened, and as of 9:20 p.m. all lanes in both directions were reopened completely, FHP said.
