A 26-year-old man is in jail this morning after taking Manatee County deputies on a 100-mph chase.

Jerry Wayne Green, 317 61st Ave. E., Bradenton, is charged with resisting arrest without violence. He is being held without bond.

A Manatee deputy was monitoring traffic with a radar device about midnight Tuesday when a red Volkswagen was spotted driving 124 mph northbound on U.S. 301 and S.R. 70, the sheriff’s office said. The posted speed limit in that area is 55 mph.

Multiple units responded to the area and a deputy saw the vehicle run a red light, according to the sheriff’s office.

A deputy pursued the vehicle with lights and siren activated but it fled. The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office was contacted and joined the pursuit.

An airborne unit assisted deputies and saw the vehicle pull into 32nd Ave. E. A deputy saw the driver run from a car to the residence, which was then surrounded by deputies.

The homeowner allowed a search, the sheriff’s office said, and Green was found in a child’s bedroom. A criminal database check found he also was wanted on warrants out of Manatee and Sarasota counties.
