A Bradenton homeowner was stabbed during a struggle with two intruders he caught attempting to rob his garage late Tuesday, deputies said.

The 60-year-old man stepped outside his house on the 7100 block of 28th Avenue West about 11:40 p.m. to smoke and noticed the garage door was open, deputies said.

He also noticed items from his garage on the walkway.

That's when he spotted two burglars in his garage, deputies said.

The homeowner approached and grabbed one of the men, and a struggle ensured. The homeowner managed to get the intruder on the ground, but the other one jumped on top and stabbed the homeowner in the back three times, deputies said.

The burglars then fled, deputies said.

Both suspects were described by deputies as Hispanic, 5 feet 6 inches tall and 130 pounds. One was wearing a gray hoodie and the other a white T-shirt.

Anyone with information on the case should call the Manatee County Sheriff's Office at (941) 747-3011 or Crime Stoppers at 1-866-634-TIPS (8477).
