A body found on a Palmetto road Thursday morning was identified as 52-year-old woman who lived about two miles away, Manatee County deputies said.

Bernadette Phicien, 1420 Ninth Ave. E., was last seen alive Wednesday night at her home, Manatee Sheriff Brad Steube said.

A couple on their morning walk discovered Phicien's body in the 2900 block of 24th Avenue East about 6:15 a.m., deputies said.

Steube said the body suffered trauma and detectives were treating the case as a homicide.

An autopsy was performed but a cause of death was not being released, Steube said.

Anyone with information on the case was asked to call the sheriff's office at (941) 747-3011 or Crime Stoppers at 1-866-634-TIPS (8477).
