Polk County sheriff's deputies are investigating a two-vehicle fatal crash that occurred Saturday at a traffic light on State Road 60.
Deputies identified the victim as Yati S. Patel, 24, 1520 Harbor Way, Bartow. Patel was leaving the Mulberry Inn and Suites after dropping family off around 5:30 p.m. and pulled her 2007 Toyota Yaris onto the westbound lanes of State Road 60 after stopping at a flashing red light.
A westbound 1994 Chevrolet Blazer, driven by John W. Williams, 30, 930 Childs Ave., Bartow, was unable to stop and the front of the Blazer hit the driver's side of the Yaris, deputies said. The Toyota was pushed about 100 yards west, deputies said.
Patel was pronounced dead at the scene, deputies said, and Williams was taken to Bartow Regional Medical Center where he was treated and later released. Deputies said alcohol did not appear to play a role in the wreck and both drivers were wearing seat belts.
No charges have been filed.
The wreck reduced traffic flow on State Road 60 to one lane in both directions for about four hours.
