AVON PARK — An Avon Park man was arrested early Tuesday morning after his estranged wife accused him of kidnapping and sexually assaulting her, according to a press release from the Highlands County Sheriff’s Office.
Arcadio Torres Jr., whose age and address were not immediately available, was arrested by the Highlands County Sheriff’s Office and charged with kidnapping, sexual battery, battery and violation of injunction for protection. He was being held without bond.
The arrest came after the victim told authorities that Torres forced her into a vehicle, began hitting her and pulling her hair and then took her to an orange grove where he sexually assaulted her, the press release said.
At the time of the assault, the victim had an injunction for protection order against Torres, the press release. Those injunctions generally prevent someone coming near or contacting another person.
The Sheriff’s Office had received a call around 2:15 a.m. about a possible kidnapping at Las Palmas Resort Apartments, the press release said.
