TAMPA - Police have arrested the man they said stole a women's purse after first asking if he could help carry her groceries.
Gimond Foster, 38, of 2904 E. Sligh Ave., is charged with armed robbery. Police said he saw a 75-year-old woman coming out of the Marathon gas station on 40th Street on Wednesday and offered to carry her grocery bags. When he refused, he tried to grab the bags; she swung her cane at him.
Eventually, police said, Foster pulled a knife and took a bag of groceries and the woman's wallet.
Police arrested Foster today after responding to a domestic dispute near Slight and 15th Street. Officers recognized Foster, whose face had been recorded on video during the theft, and arrested him. Police said he admitted to the crime.
