SPRING HILL – A 72-year-old man was booked on aggravated battery charges early Thursday morning after hitting a man in the head with a wooden chair leg.

According to an arrest affidavit, Duane Cole went to a Merrick lane residence to pick up his granddaughter. When a man at the home said Cole’s granddaughter was not going with him, he grabbed a cut off wooden chair leg out of his car, chased the victim and struck him in the head.

The victim was taken to Spring Hill Regional, where he was treated for a head laceration and contusion.

Cole was booked at the Hernando County Jail on charges of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, and released about two hours later on $5,000 bond.
