Affidavit: Hernando man threatens to burn down house

Published:

WEEKI WACHEE – A Cedarvue Avenue man is being held on no bond at the Hernando County Jail after allegedly trying to burn his house down.

According to an arrest affidavit, George Rand, 49, was intoxicated and yelling at family members on Thursday night, telling them “he was going to burn the house down and there was nothing they could do.”

Rand lit a table cloth and newspaper on fire, and took away the cell phones of three family members in the house so they could not call 911.

Rand was arrested on charges of arson, victim tampering and assault. Because Rand was put on probation earlier this year – for possessing a controlled substance and using a two-way radio to commit a felony – he is being held on no bond.
