A 9-year-old boy was accidentally shot in the forearm Friday night outside the North Boulevard Homes in Tampa, police said.

It appears the boy was outside on Oregon Avenue at around 6 p.m. with two other children, said Tampa police Lt. Richard O’Connor.

Witnesses told police that one boy, who is around 12 or 13 years old, had a gun and it accidentally went off, striking the 9-year-old on the forearm, O’Connor said.

The injured boy was rushed to the hospital and is fine, O’Connor said.

The shooter ran from the scene. Police are trying to locate him and the weapon.

The case remains under investigation.
