7-Eleven clerk with gun thwarts coffee-throwing robber

St. Petersburg police are looking a man who tried to rob a 7-Eleven by throwing coffee on the clerk but was chased from the store after the clerk pulled a gun.

The incident, which was recorded by security cameras, took place at 5:19 a.m. Oct. 12 at 3001 34th St. N., police said.

The man entered the 7-Eleven and walked to the back to get a cup of coffee, then waited for the clerk at the counter, police said. When the clerk arrived, the man threw the coffee on him and reached into the cash register, police said. The man then pulled a knife on the clerk, but the clerk drew a concealed firearm, police said.

The man then fled west on 30th Avenue North.

The suspect may be a transient who resides in the area.
