5 gang members charged in Hillsborough RICO investigation

Five members of the Sur 13 gang have been arrested, and two others already incarcerated faces new charges, as the result of an investigation called Operation SURender by the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office.

The Special Investigations Division started the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organization investigation in August and the arrests were made Tuesday, the sheriff’s office said.

The operation targeted Surenos Criminal Street Gang members.

Those arrested were:

* Ramiro Guerrero III, 22, of 2036 Pleasant Acre Drive, Plant City, is charged with a RICO violation, conspiracy to commit RICO, and solicitation to purchase controlled substance. He is being held on $215,000 bond.

* Sebastian Guevara, 17, is charged with a RICO violation; conspiracy to commit RICO; shooting at, within, or into a building; aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer; and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

* Macario Hernandez, 26, of 607 Strickland St. W., Plant City, is charged with a RICO violation, and conspiracy to commit RICO. He is being held on $200,000 bond.

* Eugeno Reyes, 20, of 2508 Wiggins Road S., Plant City is charged with a RICO violations, conspiracy to commit RICO, and solicitation to purchase controlled substance. He is being held on $215,000.

* Cruz Vargas, 22, is charged with a RICO violation and conspiracy to commit RICO. He was booked into the Polk County jail.

* Chris Manriquez, 21, is charged with a RICO violation and conspiracy to commit RICO. He is serving time in state prison for robbery with a deadly weapon.

* Raul Rodriguez, 20, is charged with a RICO violation and conspiracy to commit RICO. He is serving time in the Hillsborough County jail.

“Surenos” is a Spanish term for southerner, which refers to southern California, the original location of the gang, the sheriff’s office said.
