TAMPA The average price of regular unleaded gas fell 4 cents in the past week across the Tampa Bay area, to $3.43 a gallon.
That compares to a statewide average of $3.50 a gallon, down 2 cents from a week earlier, and a national average of $3.56, down a penny from a week earlier.
Midgrade gas averages $3.60 a gallon locally, premium averages $3.72 and diesel averages $3.80, according to AAA.
Gas prices have been declining since reaching an average of nearly $4 a gallon in Florida during early May.
Prices in Florida are expected to decline again this week as the U.S. prepares to release the first of its oil reserves into the market, said Jessica Brady, spokeswoman in Tampa for AAA Auto Club South.
The first of 30 million barrels of oil will be released into the market from U.S. reserves later this week, which is also expected to push oil prices lower.
The price of a barrel of oil actually rose $3.78 last week, settling at $94.94 Friday on the New York Mercantile Exchange, after reports showed U.S. manufacturing increased in the month of June, AAA said.
"Consumers are still expected to get a break at the pump as retail gas prices continue to fall week after week," Brady said.
