Safety Harbor resort pays back-wages to 37 workers

The Safety Harbor Resort and Spa has paid 37 employes $30,786 in back wages, the Wage and Hour Division of the U.S. Labor Department said Tuesday.

The agency’s investigation found management changed employees’ time records, removing hours they had worked before and after their scheduled shifts, and deducted meal breaks regardless of whether the break had been taken.

Tipped employees were paid in violation of Fair Labor Standards minimum wage requirements when they did not collect enough tips to earn the minimum wage, in addition to their direct cash wages and the employer failed to make up the difference.
