Nordstrom Rack outlet coming to Brandon

Brandon is about to get some Nordstrom cache, albeit with an outlet store version of the heralded, luxury retailer.

Seattle-based Nordstrom Inc. announced plans to open a “Nordstrom Rack” location at the Lake Brandon Plaza development at the corner of Providence Road and Causeway Boulevard, scheduled to open in the autumn of 2014, near Sports Authority, Publix and Kohl's.

“Rack” stores work as the outlet division of Nordstrom, and typically stock and sell the overstock and returned items from the main-line Nordstrom stores. Discounts typically range from 30 to 70-percent off full retail prices. This would be the second Nordstrom Rack in the wider Tampa area, with the first one located near the intersection of I-275 and Dale Mabry Highway that opened in 2010.

Nordstrom also has a full-line luxury store at International Plaza in Tampa.

“Since 2010, customers in Tampa have enjoyed shopping at the Rack and we hope our new store at Lake Brandon Plaza will help us more conveniently serve the many customers we are fortunate to have in west central Florida,” said Geevy Thomas, president of Nordstrom Rack.

Outlet versions of luxury stores have been one of the faster-growing segments of retail. If all goes according to plan, a large outlet mall could begin development in Pasco County, potentially with a rival to Nordstrom Rack called “Off 5th” — the outlet division of Nordstrom rival Saks Fifth Avenue.
