A business magazine considers Bradenton to have one of American’s best small-city downtowns.
Southern Business & Development, a magazine that focuses on economic development in the South, based its picks on small towns that have vibrant downtown areas.
Bradenton was praised as “a bustling area with an eclectic mix of arts, culture and heritage.”
The new downtown Riverwalk along the Manatee River and the Manatee Players theatrical group were cited as reasons Bradenton is called “the friendly city.”
“The small-town city, with a population of just 50,000, welcomes its guests with the charm of a laid-back coastal town,” the magazine wrote.
Stuart, on Florida’s east coast, was also on the magazine’s 10 selections of “vibrant and exciting” small cities.
Also on the list were Bardstown and Danville, Ky.; Sumter, S.C.; Columbus, Miss.; Harrisonburg, Va.; El Dorado, Ark.; and Bastrop and Georgetown, Texas.
“Nothing tops off a suitable small-town location more than a great downtown,” the magazine wrote.
