Planners will recommend the Tampa-Hillsborough County Expressway Authority's board approves a nearly $235,000 contract to beautify the Lee Roy Selmon Expressway at the Swann Avenue underpass in the Hyde Park neighborhood.
Aesthetic improvements, including pedestrian-friendly walkways, lighting enhancements and fresh paint for the underpass, are expected to be complete in time for the Republican National Convention.
Palm Harbor-based Kloote Contracting made the lowest bid of two companies seeking the deal. The contract will be discussed at the board's April 23 meeting.
Kloote proved to be responsible and responsive, expressway authority spokeswoman Sue Chrzan said.
The Republican convention runs from Aug. 27-30 and is expected to draw 50,000 people to Tampa. Convention planners expect thousands of attendees will be drawn to the Hyde Park area and its shops, restaurants and bars.
