TAMPA -

Gas prices in Tampa Bay inched down a few pennies a gallon this past week as energy markets remained relatively stable around the world.

A gallon of regular unleaded now averages $3.53 in Tampa Bay, compared to $3.56 a week ago. Statewide, unleaded now averages $3.59, compared to $3.61 a week ago.

Gas prices have remained relatively flat in Tampa Bay since June after a peak in May towards $4 per gallon.

Petroleum now leans toward $90 per barrel, which typically signals a barrel could reach $100, said Jessica Brady, spokeswoman for AAA Auto Club South.

Though with news of lingering sluggish economies globally, Brady said, "It's likely gas prices could decrease further this week."
