Zimmerman won’t be able to depose attorney

ORLANDO -

For a second time, a judge is denying a request by George Zimmerman's attorney to depose a lawyer for the family of Trayvon Martin.

Circuit Judge Debra Nelson issued the denial on Thursday.

Zimmerman's attorney, Mark O'Mara, wanted to depose Ben Crump, claiming he could provide testimony that shows a key witness for prosecutors had lied.

Crump interviewed the teen known as Witness 8 shortly after Martin's shooting death in February 2012.

Prosecutors say Witness 8 was on the phone with Martin moments before he died.

Martin was fatally shot by Zimmerman during a confrontation at a gated community in Sanford, an Orlando suburb. Zimmerman is pleading not guilty to second-degree murder, claiming self-defense. His trial is set for June.

A month-and-a-half delay in Zimmerman's arrest led to nationwide protests.
