A 31-year-old Polk County man died after falling about 40 feet from a catwalk while working at a Tampa Electric plant on Port Sutton Road on Monday afternoon.

Hillsborough County sheriff’s deputies identified the man as Bryan Hagan, 406 N.E. Eighth St., Mulberry.

Hagan was working for Southeastern Construction and Maintenance dismantling part of the Bayside Power Station when he fell through a grate on a catwalk around 1:30 p.m., deputies said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Bayside station was previously known as the Gannon Station and had been a coal-fired plant. It was converted to natural gas and workers were dismantling older parts of the plant that were associated with coal.

Gannon Station was the site of an explosion in 1999 that killed two men.
