Surveillance video of Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston shoplifting seafood at a Tallahassee Publix was released to some media outlets Thursday by the Leon County Sheriff’s Office.

The nondescript video, posted online by the Tallahassee Democrat, shows Winston picking up an order of crab legs and crawfish, walking through the store for butter at a dairy case, then exiting after waiting for an off-duty deputy to pass.

Winston, 20, told deputies he forgot to pay for three pounds worth of Old Bay seasoned steamed crab legs and a pound of Cajun seasoned crawfish. But he said he didn’t take the butter. He said he decided on the way out of the store that he didn’t need it and placed it in a sale bin instead of returning it to the dairy cooler.

Deputies were unable to determine whether Winston took the butter or placed it in the sale bin, a sheriff’s office report said.

Winston signed a civil citation admitting he committed petit theft and was suspended from FSU’s baseball team for three games while completing 20 hours of community service.

The 6-foot-4, 235-pound Winston won the Heisman Trophy after leading FSU to an undefeated season and national championship. He is also a pitcher on the Seminoles’ baseball team.
