MIAMI — Tropical Storm Fernand (fair-nahn) has formed off Mexico’s Gulf coast and is expected to make landfall Monday.
The U.S. National Hurricane Center in Miami said Sunday the storm had winds of at least 45 mph. Fernand is about 25 miles east of the Mexican state of Veracruz.
The storm is expected to produce 4 to 8 inches of rain over parts of several states.
A tropical storm warning was in effect on Mexico’s Gulf coast from Veracruz to Tampico.
In the eastern Pacific, former Tropical Storm Ivo weakened further from a tropical depression into a remnant low.
