WUSF-FM is bringing in the big guns — at least as big as they come in public radio — to wrap up celebrations for its golden anniversary.
The Tampa Bay radio station is hosting “Reinventing Radio: An Evening With Ira Glass,” Sept. 13 at 8 p.m. at The Mahaffey Theater in St. Petersburg.
Glass, creator and host of the weekly, documentary radio show and podcast “This American Life,” will appear as part of the celebrations for WUSF's 50th year on the air. Through a mix of live speaking and pre-recorded moments from the show, Glass will explain how the popular program is put together, where they find stories and how the show's staff is pushing broadcast journalism “to do things it doesn't usually do,” The Mahaffey said.
Tickets, priced from $23 to $128 go on sale June 27 at noon through themahaffey.com or by calling (727) 893-7832. VIP packages will include a pre-performance private reception with Glass.
Most weeks, “This American Life” is the most popular podcast in the country, with around a million people downloading each episode, according to the show's site.
