A 62-year-old man suffering from dementia, who had been reported missing, died early Saturday morning after he jumped or walked in front of a Tampa police officer’s car and was hit.

About 5 a.m., the officer was eastbound on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard at 34th Street when Randolph McClendon, of 3213 11th Ave. E. , Tampa, appeared in front the patrol car, police said.

He died at the scene.

McClendon was reported missing Saturday morning after the crash, and officers determined he was the pedestrian involved in the crash.
