A motorcyclist was killed in a crash Friday night, Hillsborough County sheriff's deputies said.
At 7:07 p.m., Geoffrey B. Dawson, 25, was on a 2006 Honda CBR 1000 motorcycle heading west on Bearss Avenue, when he tried to pass between two cars near the intersection of Lake Emerald Boulevard, deputies said.
Dawson was struck by one of the cars – a Ford Focus driven by 26-year-old Catherine Nicholas, of Brandon – and was ejected 50 feet from the motorcycle, deputies said.
He was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital where he died at 9:42 p.m.
Nicholas and a passenger in the Ford Focus were taken to St. Joseph's with minor injuries.
Sheriff's deputies said Dawson was driving the motorcycle fast and carelessly, and had passed between another set of cars traveling side-by-side before the crash.
Dawson was a volunteer responder for the Hillsborough County Fire Department, deputies said.
