Tampa Electric Co. is reporting 4,787 customers without power after the strong storms rolled through Hillsborough, Pasco and Polk counties this afternoon.
The outages range from Dade City to the north to the Winter Haven area and south to Sun City Center. The most concentrated outages are in Brandon, Temple Terrace, Lutz and Winter haven.
The Tampa Bay area saw lots of active and dangerous lightning, according to Steve Jerve, News Channel 8 meteorologist.
And there were some reports of hail in Valrico and in Pasco County.
The storms are blamed for the death of a man who died after a tree fell on his car in Ocala. Police said about 4:23 p.m., the man was sitting in his Mitsubishi in his driveway when a neighbor’s tree fell, hitting their unoccupied vehicle and his.
The chance of rain will be about 40 percent for Tuesday, and the lows throughout the week will be around 70, with highs in the mid-80s to low 90s.
