School board seeks ideas for naming new school in Ruskin

Published:

TAMPA — How about “Next-To-Lennard” or “Shell Point” elementary?

The Hillsborough County School Board is seeking ideas for what to name a new school scheduled to open in the Ruskin area in 2014.

All they’ve come up with so far is “Elementary A.”

The school is on East Shell Point Road, adjacent to Lennard High School.

Actually, there are rules about names for any new school. Under school board policy, it has to be an individual who has rendered outstanding service to public education, such as U.S. presidents, school board members, educators, outstanding citizens, and geographic locations.

Nominations may be sent in writing to Chris Farkas, Area Leadership Director for Area 8, at 2807 John Sherman Way, Ruskin, FL 33570. Or e-mail christopher.farkas@sdhc.k12.fl.us.

Farkas’ office phone is (813) 658-1970.

The deadline is 4 p.m. Sept. 9. The tentative date for a school board vote on a name is Sept. 24.
