Two Sarasota police officers are credited with saving a 1-year-old boy who was choking on a chicken bone.

Police say Dominic Harris and Steven Fergus were on patrol on 21st Street on June 19 when they observed several women holding the choking baby — who turned 1 today — upside-down.

Police say Fergus called dispatch for help as Harris performed the infant Heimlich maneuver to dislodge the bone.

The baby was taken to All Children’s Hospital and rushed to surgery. He is expected to make a full recovery, police say.
