Residents were displaced after a fire damaged 12 units at a Carrollwood apartment complex late Tuesday night.

Hillsborough County Fire Rescue crews responding to the two-alarm fire at Cypress Lake Apartments, 4711 W. Waters Ave., around 11:30 p.m. found smoke and flames coming from the third floor.

The crews contained the fire, and 40 residents were evacuated but no injuries were reported, officials say.

The American Red Cross is assisting in relocating the residents, officials say. It is opening a shelter at the First Baptist Church of Town & Country, 7601 Jackson Springs Rd.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
