A pedestrian is hospitalized after he walked in front of a Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office deputy's vehicle on Wednesday morning.

Shawn Michael Thompson-Ferrero, 22, of 3810 Beechwood Blvd., who was intoxicated, tried to walk north across Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. about 3:52 a.m. when he was struck by the eastbound Deputy Daniel Joyce, according to the sheriff's office.

Joyce tried to drive around Thompson-Ferrero, but could not. Thompson-Ferrero was taken to Tampa General Hospital with abrasions and a possible fracture, the sheriff's office said.
