A male passenger from The Villages was killed early this morning when the driver ran a red light and crossed into the path of another car on Martin Luther King Boulevard in Tampa.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, 40-year-old Chad Arthur Prilliman, of Wildwood, was driving a 2013 Kia sedan northbound on the I-4 ramp just after 2:30 a.m. when he failed to stop for a traffic signal while turning westbound at the intersection of Martin Luther King Boulevard.

Prilliman turned into the path of a 2006 Nissan SUV driven by 30-year-old Ashley Lyann Barrett, of Tampa, the FHP said.

Brian Robert Costello, 32, died at the scene, the FHP said.

Officials are conducting an investigation to determine whether alcohol was involved in the crash.
