A New Port Richey man is in custody after shooting a woman in the chest Monday night near U.S. 19, according to New Port Richey police.
Raymond Floyd Wagner, 50, 5725 Mitchell Court, is charged with attempted felony murder and aggravated assault.
Two women were walking along U.S. 19 in New Port Richey about 7:53 p.m. when Wagner pulled up beside them in his car and began to argue.
Police said Wagner had paid one of the women $60 for a sex act on Saturday and the woman ran away.
On Monday night, the argument continued along U.S. 19 and into the parking lot of Venom Custom Choppers, 7430 U.S. 19. Wagner threatened to kill the women, according to the arrest report.
Wagner fired a round from a handgun as he was sitting in his car, striking one of the women on the left side of the chest.
When authorities arrived, one of the women gave them Wagner’s tag number, which was traced to his address. Officers, who arrived at his home just after 9 p.m. Monday, found Wagner trying to remove the license plate from his car, which was parked in front of the house, police said.
Wagner was carrying a loaded semi-automatic pistol in a holster.
He remains in the Land O’ Lakes Jail with no bond on the attempted murder count and a $5,000 bond on the aggravated assault charge.
