TAMPA — A knife-wielding man, disguised in black clothing from head to toe, is accused of robbing the Motel 6 on Adamo Drive where he worked as a maintenance man.

Brian Harris, 31, was arrested without incident Friday at the motel at 9942 Adamo Drive in Tampa, said Hillsborough County sheriff’s spokesman Larry McKinnon. He is charged with robbery, grand theft and tampering with a witness.

The robbery took place at about 7:15 a.m. on May 16. The suspect approached the motel’s desk clerk from behind and demanded money from a cash register, McKinnon said. A struggle ensued, and after the clerk managed to call 911, the suspect cut the phone cord with a knife and continued to demand money.

After grabbing a fire extinguisher and threatening the clerk, the suspect grabbed some money and ran away, the sheriff’s spokesman said.

Physical evidence at the crime scene and a witness’ recognition of the assailant’s voice led investigators to Harris, McKinnon said.

Harris is being held at the Orient Road Jail with bail set at $25,000.
