TAMPA — The fight over a decaying mansion on tony Davis Islands has been delayed for another two weeks.
Neighbors are pushing for the demolition of a 4,000-square-foot home at 545 Severn Ave. that they say has fallen into a dangerous level of disrepair during the several years it has been left vacant. They said the property is overgrown, chunks of the mansion have fallen down and that kids use the empty home as a hangout to drink beer and smoke marijuana.
A hearing before the city was scheduled for Wednesday, but attorneys for the home’s owners, John and Mary Perez, asked for a 14-day stay, city officials said Monday. The hearing now is scheduled for 9 a.m. Nov. 6 at Old City Hall.
