Detectives: Man placed skimmers on Hillsborough bank ATMs

Detectives are searching for a man seen on surveillance video who they say placed a skimming device on the card readers of several ATMs at Sun Trust banks in eastern Hillsborough County between July 3 and July 7.

The Sun Trust bank branches are located at 9601 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., Tampa, 403 Brandon Blvd., Brandon and 3511 Bell Shoals Road in Valrico.

He attached the skimming equipment with green and white two-sided tape, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said.

The suspect also attached a thin silver box to the ATM at the Tampa location, which contained electronic equipment and a camera aimed at the keypad to record customers fingers as they entered their personal identification numbers, the sheriff’s office said.

The box was left attached to the underside of the ATM above the keypad area, deputies said. They also discovered a broken card reader faceplate in a nearby flower bed.

Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to $1,000 for information that leads to the identification and arrest of the unknown suspect in the case.

Anyone with any information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-873-TIPS (8477), or to report anonymously online at www.crimestopperstb.com, or by texting “CSTB” plus your tip to 274637(CRIMES).
