Hillsborough County deputies are seeking the public’s help in locating the driver in a Tampa hit-and-run fatality this morning involving a bicyclist.
Deputies say the incident occurred around 7:50 a.m. at the U.S. 92 overpass crossing over the off-ramp for eastbound Interstate 4 near the Florida State Fairgrounds.
The bicyclist, 29-year-old Michael Duriel Lee of Tampa, was riding eastbound on the right shoulder of U.S. 92 when he was struck by the driver of an unknown vehicle who also was traveling eastbound on the overpass, deputies say.
Lee was thrown from the bicycle, over the guardrail to the south, and fell 80 feet into the retention area below, deputies say.
Two witnesses told deputies they saw Lee fall from above, along with a black backpack he was carrying, but did not see the suspect vehicle.
Deputies say Lee was believed to be on his way to work at Central Power System Incorporated, 4751 Oakfair Blvd in Tampa.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office at 247-8200.
