A Holiday man was arrested Saturday after he entered a store wearing a gas mask and carrying several guns, according to the Pasco Sheriff’s Office. The guns were later determined to be BB and Airsoft guns.

About 6:30 p.m., Christopher William Averbeck, 42, 2522 Ochatilla Road, walked into the Rent A Center, 2615 U.S. Highway 19, Holiday, wearing a gas mask, carrying what appeared to be an assault rifle, and two holsters, one on each hip. One of holsters carried a replica-type pistol, the arrest report said.

A store employee called authorities and said he feared the store was going to be robbed.

When a deputy responded, it was revealed the weapons were BB and Airsoft guns.

Averbeck told the deputy, “I did not know it was a crime to carry them since they are not real, the report said.

Averbeck, who was charged with disorderly conduct and carrying a concealed weapon, was released Sunday from the Land O’ Lakes Jail after posting a $150 bond.
