Pinellas County deputies said one person died Thursday afternoon in a construction accident in St. Petersburg.

The accident occurred at 3:44 p.m. at Sky Trap and Skeet Club, 3200 74th Ave. N., as John J. Winchester, 53, of Palmetto, an employee of Woodruff and Sons Construction, was operating a vibratory roller, which is a steam roller that vibrates to pack down sand.

While backing up an embankment, the roller flipped, pinning Winchester under the metal roof, deputies said.

Construction crews were able to remove the roller, but John was pronounced deceased on the scene, deputies said.

The incident remains under investigation.
