A driver suffered minor injuries when he crashed his car into a pawn shop Tuesday afternoon, Clearwater Public Safety officials said.
The driver, Daniel Grillo, 90, of Clearwater apparently mistook the gas pedal for the brake as he attempted to park his Cadillac at Quick Cash Pawn, 1735 Drew St., about 1:45 p.m. The car was inside the store when Clearwater police and firefighters arrived.
Grillo suffered minor cuts and was taken to Mease Countryside Hospital. Passenger Francis Grillo, 85, and the store's owner, who was in the business at the time, were not injured. The names of the store owner was not immediately available.
Firefighters used a large jack to make sure the front of the store was stable until more permanent repairs could be made.
