For more than two decades, a special summer camp has been helping kids cope with their scars, both physical and emotional.
Camp Hopetake, a weeklong camp for children who've suffered burn injuries, celebrates its 23rd year this week. The free camp, organized by the Regional Burn Center at Tampa General Hospital, is staffed by local firefighters, paramedics and nurses who volunteer as counselors.
Today, approximately 30 campers visited Adventure Island water park for a day of fun in the sun.
"I come here and I just feel like everything's alright," said Robert Bostick, a camper who suffered a burn to his leg in 2005. "I come here every year, and I just feel like we're just family now...it's just really a blessing at the end of the day."
