The Mision lago estate was already one of the county’s largest, now it’s earning accolades as one of the nation’s best.

The mansion, located on 11 acres overlooking Lake Thonotosassa in eastern Hillsborough County, earned top honors in the One-of-a-Kind Homes category at the recent International Builders show in Las Vegas. The 23,000-square-foot home was also selected for a Professional Builder Design Award by Professional Builder magazine.

The home is owned by Tom and June Simpson, who in 2006 sold their company Health Advocates Inc. for $83 million.

The home features a replica of the Tampa Theatre, a sports lounge with flooring that looks like the infield at Tropicana Field and a 900-square-foot Oval Office, complete with a duplicate of President John F. Kennedy’s desk with a hideaway door.

The home, which took nearly four years to complete, was built by Gary Brown of Sterling Bay Homes.
