And the honor of the first baby to arrive in Hillsborough County in 2014 goes to ... Aileen Capula Martinez.

Lucero Martinez of Ruskin delivered the little girl at 12:33 a.m. today at Tampa General Hospital, according to a release from the hospital.

Aileen weighs 7 pounds 14 ounces and was 20 ½ inches long.

Martinez, a stay-at-home mom in Ruskin, said she had not planned on having the first baby of the year, but is thrilled that’s the way it turned out.

“I was so happy,” she said. “I was so excited for her being the first one.”

Martinez said she will make sure her daughter realizes that, for a brief moment on New Year’s Day 2014, she was something of a celebrity.

“We will let her know as soon as we can talk to her and she can understand it,” Martinez said.

The baby’s father is Martinez’s boyfriend, Meliton Capula. Martinez also has a 3-year-old son, Michael Martinez.

Dr. James Palmer of USF Health was the attending physician.

Both mother and daughter are reported to be doing well.
