An Orlando boy spent his ninth birthday in a Brevard County hospital, recovering from shark bites.
Christian Sanhueza was boogieboarding in the Atlantic Ocean near Patrick Air Force Base on Saturday afternoon when his mother heard his screams.
Then the boy vanished in the waves.
Melissa Sanhueza told Florida Today she grabbed the boy and ran.
On Tuesday, the third-grader was recovering from a severed Achilles’ tendon and ligament damage. Since Saturday, he has had two surgeries at Holmes Regional Medical Center in Melbourne.
His mom said the family was spending the day at the beach on Saturday to celebrate Christian’s birthday. She estimated that the shark was about 3 feet long.
The boy could be discharged from the hospital Friday, but faces additional surgeries.
