Lawmakers on Thursday approved the renaming of two Florida colleges.
Pasco Hernando Community College is now “Pasco‐Hernando State College” and Edison State College was changed to “Florida SouthWestern State College.”
Pasco Hernando has campuses in Wesley Chapel, Spring Hill, Brooksville, Dade City and New Port Richey.
The new Florida SouthWestern has campuses in Collier, Charlotte and Lee counties.
The former Edison college’s name change was spurred by Thomas Edison State College in Trenton. N.J., having rights to the Edison name. The Florida school wanted to avoid a lawsuit.
Gov. Rick Scott still must sign off on the changes.
