Tampa Bay man in country unlawfully is closer to becoming lawyer

Published:

The Tampa Bay man brought to the United States as a child from Mexico and now here unlawfully is another step closer to getting his Florida law license.

Patsy Palmer, one of the attorneys representing Jose Godinez-Samperio, said Tuesday that the Florida Board of Bar Examiners has recommended he be admitted to practice.

“I’m ecstatic,” Godinez-Samperio said in a brief telephone interview. “It all feels unreal.”

He hopes the Florida Supreme Court will clear him to be sworn in sometime next month, hopefully in the Tampa area.

A full story will be online later.
