TAMPA — Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn was on a roll in his State of the City speech Tuesday morning, urging city residents to get behind Pinellas County’s transit tax referendum, when his mouth got ahead of his talking points.
Buckhorn referred to St. Petersburg Mayor Rick Kriseman as “Rick Kriseman, the mayor of Tampa.”
The next breath he corrected himself, drawing a chuckle from the crowd assembled in the Tampa Armature Works building.
“He’s not going to be the mayor of Tampa,” Buckhorn said, following his tangent. “That ain’t going to happen.”
Then the punchline: “I wouldn’t mind having his baseball team, though.”
