A baby was attacked by a neighbor’s dog Friday afternoon in Holiday, the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office said.

The child, 10-month-old Joshua Murphy, was bitten on his head and shoulder by a dog that’s reportedly a pit bull, the sheriff’s office said. He was taken to All Children’s Hospital where he had surgery, deputies said.

The incident occurred at around 2 p.m., but the sheriff’s office didn’t learn about the case until Friday night.

The child’s mother and the dog’s owner, Megan Pitman, were outside Pitman’s apartment at 2145 Ranchita Trail in Holiday when they heard the dog growling inside the residence. They entered the home and found the dog attacking the child, police said.

Pasco Animal Control took possession of the dog Friday night.
